Nobody cares how complicated your analysis was. They don’t understand it and they don’t want to.

What does matter? Two things.

  • Do they trust you?
  • Does it give them a story to tell?

I’ve learned this over the years as my reporting audience has grown. The real challenge isn’t building the analysis. It’s:

  • How do I hold this complicated truth I know inside and out?
  • How do I share it in a way that honors the complexity and that my audience can understand, trust, and act on?

The request is the analysis. The value and responsibility is the clarity.
